Meet Our Professional Team

The heart of Middletown Firearms is our dedicated team of experts, committed to providing unparalleled service, safety, and firearms education.

Travis Dodson

Travis Dodson

Owner

Travis Dodson is a U.S. Combat Infantry Marine turned entrepreneur, proudly owning and operating Middletown Firearms for over 11 years. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, he brings the same discipline, precision, and grit from his military service into every part of his business — along with the occasional crayon snack, because once a Marine, always a Marine. As a NRA Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer, Travis has a passion for teaching — whether it’s helping new shooters feel confident on the range or guiding experienced gun owners through the finer points of firearm safety and performance. He believes learning about firearms should be both educational and fun (with maybe a few dad jokes mixed in for good measure). When he’s not running the shop, Travis can be found spending time with his wife and three kids, enjoying the outdoors, hunting, or raising chickens and ducks. When the day winds down, he might just be online gaming — reliving his Marine Corps days (minus the MREs).

Dan Mumaw

Dan Mumaw

Gunsmith

Dan calls Stephenson, VA his home. He is a graduate of Jefferson Co High and James Rumsey Technical Institute. Dan is also a 2008 graduate of the American Gunsmithing Institute. He has been a machinist for 40+ years. Dan's hobbies are spending time with his grandkids, hot rods, drag racing, and of course...FIREARMS. Dan really loves fixing things. If you've ever had any work done by Dan, you would see his passion through his work.

Jim Baker

Jim Baker

Range Instructor / Range Lead

Jim Baker is the backbone of Middletown Training, serving as our Lead Instructor for over nine years. He’s the face of our training program — literally, since he’s featured in the logo — and the go-to guy for anyone serious about improving their shooting skills. A dedicated NRA Instructor and Range Safety Officer, Jim brings years of experience, patience, and humor to every class he teaches. Whether you’re brand new to firearms or refining your competition skills, Jim has the insight (and the sharp eye) to help you correct bad habits and shoot with confidence. Outside the classroom, Jim is a competition shooter with a special love for Canik pistols and CZs, always chasing tighter groups and smoother runs. He’s also a true craftsman — if he’s not at the range building or fixing something, he’s at home doing the same, spending time with his wife, or tending to his chickens. A family man through and through, Jim loves spending time with his kids and grandkids. Around Middletown Firearms, he’s known not just as a teacher, but as a mentor and friend to everyone who walks through the door. If you’ve got questions about your shooting form, training classes, or range time, Jim’s always reachable — by phone at Middletown Training or, more likely, in person with a smile and a Canik on his hip.

Jay Lyons

Jay Lyons

Store Manager

Jay Lyons is the ultimate jack-of-all-trades and the kind of guy every team wishes they had. A plumber, electrician, gunsmith, and NRA Instructor, Jay’s skills cover just about everything that keeps Middletown Firearms running smoothly. Whether he’s repairing, wiring, fixing, or instructing, you’ll find Jay moving around the shop with purpose — and usually a tool in hand. When he’s not helping customers or keeping the store in top shape, Jay can be found reenacting the Civil War, proudly running his muzzleloaders like it’s 1863. He’s also a regular face at our gun range, where he enjoys RSOing and helping shooters stay safe while having fun. A proud Army Airborne veteran, from back when sticks and stones were the main weapons, Jay brings grit, humor, and dedication to everything he does. His goal is simple — make sure every customer leaves happier and more confident than when they walked in.

Matt Popish

Matt Popish

Assistant Manager

Matt Popish is the Assistant Manager at Middletown Firearms, where he’s known for his expertise in firearms, suppressors, and helping customers find exactly what they need — even if it means diving into the details most people wouldn’t think twice about. When he’s not at the shop, Matt can usually be found elbows-deep in a vehicle project, working HVAC systems, or out in the woods hunting. A dedicated family man, he spends most of his free time with his kids and loved ones… or under the hood of his always-broke-down Subaru WRX. He may not be smiling in his photo, but don’t be fooled — Matt’s got both a big heart and a sense of humor that keeps the team running just as smooth (most days) as his dream car should.

Patrick Seal

Patrick Seal

Sales Professional

Patrick is a dedicated father and true Q Firearms fanatic who refuses to settle for anything less than perfection. Whether it’s precision engineering, smooth triggers, or top-tier suppressor setups, Patrick knows what makes a modern firearm perform at its best — and he’s always happy to share that knowledge with customers. As one of our Class 3 experts, Patrick works alongside Matthew to guide customers through the world of NFA items, suppressors, and short-barreled rifles. His expertise in modern firearms and suppressor systems makes him the go-to guy for anyone looking to upgrade their collection or dive deeper into performance builds. When he’s not at Middletown Firearms, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family and getting out to the range, where he’s usually found slinging lead downrange with a grin (and maybe a new suppressor he’s “testing,” of course). Patrick’s mix of professionalism, technical know-how, and laid-back personality makes him an invaluable part of the team — always ready to help, teach, and make sure every customer leaves with something that truly fits their needs.

Corey Szwydek

Corey Szwydek

Sales Professional

Corey Szwydek is one of the most dedicated members of the Middletown Firearms team — and our longest-standing part-time employee. You’ll spot Corey around the shop most evenings and nearly every Saturday, always ready to help customers find the right firearm or answer questions with his trademark calm and friendly attitude. Outside of the store, Corey proudly volunteers with the Middletown Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, Inc., serving his community with the same reliability and commitment he brings to the job. He’s also an avid competition shooter and has hands-on experience with a wide range of firearms, making him a valuable resource for customers and teammates alike. When he’s off the clock, Corey enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, 3D printing custom creations (many of which end up as giveaways for customers), and trying to keep up in Call of Duty matches with the rest of the crew — emphasis on “trying.” Corey’s passion for firearms, community, and family makes him a cornerstone of the Middletown Firearms team — always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, and make every visit to the shop a better one.
